How to Know *Exactly* Where Your Leads and Sales are Coming From
I see the question posted all the time in Facebook groups…
“I just got 15 new members into my program, but I have no clue how they found me. Does anyone know how to track this better?”
I used to be that person until last year when I got very diligent about tracking all. the. things. in my business so that I could make more informed decisions on where we spend our time and money to find new customers.
And then this year, I hired Jennifer Grayeb to build us a custom Dashboard for Google Data Studio and it is AMAZING!
I’m officially a data-loving nerd and I don’t care who knows it.
Are you ready to become a data-loving nerd, too?!
Let’s dive in…
Step 1: Tag Your Traffic Sources
The first step to understanding where your leads are coming from is to track your URLs properly.
You do this by using what is a called a “UTM parameter” – a snippet of text added to the end of URLs that help Google Analytics determine the exact source of traffic to your site.
I highly recommend picking up a copy of Jennifer Grayeb’s Tag Your Traffic training that includes a super nifty spreadsheet to help you create (and keep track of) these UTM links easily.
Step 2: Track Your Traffic Sources
Now that you’ve taken all of the time to create your UTM links, it’s time to put your data to work – by seeing exactly where your leads are coming from in an easy-to-use dashboard.
Previously, my team was needing to track down all of our marketing and sales data from all of the different pieces of software we use in our business (WordPress, Kajabi, ThriveCart, etc).
Now we have a Traffic Dashboard using Google Data Studio that shows us exactly where our leads are coming from… all in one spot that is automatically updated.
Looking for an easy way to get started with Google Dashboards? Check out the Traffic Insights Dashboard from The Nimble Co. This tool gets you set up and ready to start analyzing data in less than 10 minutes.
Step 3: Track Your Sales Conversions
The last and final step of understanding your data is knowing exactly where your actual sales conversions are coming from.
It’s one thing to track leads… but what about which leads are turning into sales?
Once you have your Traffic Dashboard set up, I highly recommend grabbing the Conversion Dashboard Add-On so that you have all the data you need to make more informed decisions on where to spend more time and money on marketing your business.
Because your top source of traffic isn’t always your top source of sales.
If you’re a smart business owner who wants a better understanding of where your hottest leads and loyal customers are coming from so that you can spend more time and money on what’s actually working, then you need The Nimble Co. in your life, stat!
